Another Card, Another Winner!

Hello there!
Here to share another card I made in June of last year...

:o)
This one reminds me of childhood books! I actually made this card on the same day I made the It's a Good Life card from my previous post. :o) The stickers are all from October Afternoon, and the patterned papers are from Echo Park. I also used a grass border punch from Martha Stewart Crafts -- I love that border punch!

I didn't hear from the winner of the Color Inspiration for Card Makers issue, so I got to pick another winner! I used a random number generator, and the new winner is...
275. Carol Metully [Jan. 14, 6:24 PM]
Thanks for telling how you went about the process for this challenge. I think it's a wonderful idea and one I may just adopt for myself.

Congratulations, Carol! I'll be contacting you for your mailing address,
and you'll have until Sunday, February 6th to reply and claim your prize! :o)

Thanks for stopping by today!

It's a Good Life Card

Hello there!
Thank you for the kind comments left on my previous post and other posts, too! I really appreciate them! :o) My goal is to visit the blog of each person that comments and leave comments for you, too -- I'm quite behind right now, but I hope to catch up soon!

Here's a card I made back in June of last year...

:o)
It's not exactly an envelope-friendly card, but I actually don't send a lot of my cards through the mail -- and those that I mail are usually in a box or a larger mailer with other stuff, so a standard envelope isn't needed.
I *love* that patterned paper, which is from Studio Calico. The die-cut banner is from October Afternoon, and so is that cute sticker! I often like to attach cardstock stickers with dimensional adhesive, just to give 'em that extra oomph -- I just back them with scrap cardstock or paper first and trim around them. :o)

Today's post over at the Lawn Fawn blog made me smile from ear-to-ear! :o) This is the first time I've ever had my cards included in a catalog, so I'm really giddy about it! *Congratulations* to Lawn Fawn on their first catalog!!!

Thanks for stopping by today!

Whale-Sized Thanks and Giveaway Results!

Hello there!
Thanks again for all of the nice comments on Friday's blog hop post! I smiled at every comment and smiled till my face actually hurt. I had Smile Pain. :o) I had to giggle at the comments saying I was organized because I'm really not! I just felt I had to have more of a 'plan' when working on cards for Color Inspiration, and after those cards were made, I put things back to how I usually store them. Normally, I just have things *roughly* organized by manufacturer, and I try to keep things in their original packaging so I know what's from where. And usually when I'm crafting, it looks like a Supply Monster threw up a little over here...a little over there...and a little more over here. HA!

Here's my notebook doodle of a card I wanted to make to say thanks to everybody:

Feel free to giggle at my drawing [I know his eyeball isn't in the right spot. Eh heh heh!]. :o) If I can't make a card right when I think of it, I like to draw it in my notebook to remember the idea...because my memory is HORRIBLE. Really, I'm the kind of person who goes into a room to get something and, half the time, can't remember what it was when I get there. Ah ha ha!

Anyhoo, here's the completed card!

:o)
Isn't that whale so adorable? He's from Lawn Fawn's Critters in the Sea stamp set, and I spelled out the sentiment with the Harold's ABCs stamp set -- I really love the font of that set! The patterned papers are from Jillibean Soup, Bella Blvd and American Crafts. I was happy to use those cute little heart brads on this card because I often forget about my stash of brads!

And now for the winner of the Color Inspiration for Card Makers issue! I used a random number generator, and the winning entry for the special issue was...

414. Kimberly S [Jan. 15, 4:37 PM]
How cute! Love that you added felt for your flower! :)
Congratulations, Kimberly! I'll be contacting you for your mailing address,
and you'll have until Monday, January 24th to reply and claim your prize! :o)

I also randomly drew three more winners to receive a miniature prize pack from me! The three winning entries were...
213. Dacia [Jan. 14, 3:38 PM]
SUCH a cute card! Love it!
459. Becky [Jan. 16, 6:39 PM]
Thanks for the chance to win, even though I seem to be no. 436 and counting! Lovely to hear your thoughts on getting to appear on a blog hop- I hop to make it on one too some day :)
Loved the way you searched your entire stash for matching colours too- it must be lovely and colour co-ordinated now!
347. Cynthia B. [Jan. 15, 12:24 AM]
Thanks for sharing some of your process with us...and congrats on being one of the "top 10" for the issue! Lovely card you've shared - love the felt flower. :)

These three folks will receive...

...roughly 3 yards each of 8 different colours of baker's twine!
Congratulations, Dacia, Becky and Cynthia! I'll be contacting you at the e.mail addresses I found on your blog/profiles, and you'll have until Monday, January 24th to reply and claim your prize! :o)

Thanks once again to those who visited and commented
-- I was really moved by how kind and supportive so many of you are! I was especially moved by those who said they could relate, those who said they smiled, laughed or were inspired to make something, and those who responded to me saying that I'm the least known on the hop. Some of your comments even made me misty-eyed, so 'thank you' isn't really enough. It's amazing how lasting kind words can be. Thank You! :o)

WHOA

Have you ever heard Bea Arthur say, "Whoa!" on The Golden Girls?
This is what I sounded like when I saw all of your kind comments on the blog hop post! Eh heh heh! :o) A really monster-sized thank you to all of you who left some kindness on that post and other posts, too! I will announce the winner of the special issue tomorrow evening -- I know I said I would do that today, but I just wanted to finish up a little surprise I'm making for everybody. :o) My heartfelt thanks for making my first blog hop such a fun one!

Paper Crafts Magazine Presents: Color Inspiration for Card Makers Blog Hop

Happy Friday, folks!
Today I'm extra thrilled to be part of a fun Paper Crafts blog hop -- this is the first blog hop I've been a part of! Get ready for the...
Ten Designers Create Ten Cards with the Same Color Combination Challenge!

We were asked to create a new card using the colour combination shown on the cover of this faaabulous issue, Color Inspiration for Card Makers!

Image courtesy of Paper Crafts magazine

Here is the card I created using this colour combination!

:o)
For some reason, the blue appears brighter in my picture, but it's actually a bit darker in-person to match Bazzill's Great Lakes blue! I used some pink felt and dies from QuicKutz to create the flower and hand-cut the stem and leaves. The sentiment stamp is from Hero Arts' Big Hugs stamp set.

I must say, this issue was the most challenging issue that I've created cards for so far, but it was also a ton of fun! And a crafty challenge is always a good challenge, right? :o)

Each designer received a package of Bazzill cardstock swatches for colour matching, so the first thing I did was punch a hole in all of 'em and put them together on binder rings:

I spent the next couple of days going through all of my supplies -- and I mean all of 'em. I was like a madwoman, holding up the colour swatches to every sheet of patterned paper, every button, every ribbon, every sticker, every embellishment...just hoping for as close a match as I could possibly get. It was like striking gold when I found a match! Ha!
I cut thin strips of post-it notes and kept a roll of masking tape handy so that I could label the matches I found, like this:

I had little piles of supplies around our apartment -- a pile of the blues and greens, a pile of the yellows, oranges and reds, etc., etc.
Then, I went through the list of colour combinations one by one, to see if I had matching materials for a particular colour combo. If I did, I pulled the matching supplies from their piles, set them on my work space, and basically STARED at the supplies, hoping for an idea to jump into my head. HA! Often, I had a very limited assortment of materials that matched a colour combo, so I wondered how on earth I'd make a card out of them. It became really fun, though, to kind of be 'surprised' by what materials I'd end up having to work with for a particular colour combo! And it was great to try out colour combos that I wouldn't have thought up on my own!

Check out the blogs of the other nine designers for more!

Neat!

Hi there! I haven't logged into my Blogger account for the past few days because I was scrambling to try to make some submissions for the Paper Crafts call. Every time there's a publication call, I always tell myself that I'll start working on it early, but...well, that doesn't usually happen. Ha!

When I started this blog, I pretty much thought I'd just be 'talking to myself' about crafts, and that was a-ok with me. I didn't think people would actually visit. It's always a surprise when people do! When I logged into Blogger today, I was greeted by some kind comments and something that is new to me -- this here blog award!

The lovely Kim was so kind to give me this award on her gorgeous blog Paper Loves Glue [how super-cute is this?], and so was the lovely Christiana on her super-fabulous blog Christy Gets Crafty [I adore this!]! WOO-HOO! I love their cards and am smiling from ear-to-ear that they've passed this award on to me. Thank you, ladies!! :o) Here's a paper-crafted Thank You for you!

:o)
I had made this card to submit to Paper Crafts' Color Inspiration issue, although it was 'incorrect' because I left the green leaves on [thought it'd look funny without] when the colour combo didn't call for green. I still like this card, though, and I like the colour combo they gave [even though I didn't follow it correctly -- ha!]! The patterned papers are from October Afternoon and Studio Calico, the stamp is from Papertrey's Big & Bold Wishes stamp set, and the flower sticker is from K&Co.

Anyhoo, here are the rules for this blog award [the rules appeared differently on Kim's and Christiana's blogs, so I'm just going with the first I read on Kim's blog]:

Rules that accompany this award:
1. Thank and link back to the person who awarded you this.
2. Share 8 things about yourself.
3. Pay it forward to bloggers that you have recently discovered.

8 things about me:
1. I'm a GIGANTIC fan of The Golden Girls. Have been since I was a little girl. I love all four Golden Girls, but I can especially relate to Bea Arthur as Dorothy Zbornak...even as a little girl I always felt a connection to that character. I've watched each episode so many times that I can recite whole scenes. And I'm not ashamed to admit it! :o)
2. I sing songs to my cat. I make up songs for him, and I also like to change the words to known songs so that they're Humble-themed. Ha! :o) Humble puts up with me very well. :o)
3. I get my better paper crafting ideas late at night -- sometimes I'll lose track of time, look up from my work space and realize I've crafted till the sun came up.
4. I sound like a guy. I've been called "sir" on the phone so many times that I've lost count.
5. I look a little rough, but I'm a Giant Mush for animals! [I even cry at the end of The Littlest Hobo episodes when he leaves...not ashamed to admit that, either!] I have a much stronger connection to animals than I have to people. If I have to go to someone's house for a dinner, let's say, I'll spend most of the time sitting on the floor, playing with the family dog, or hanging out with the family birds.
6. I can understand some Chinese and Vietnamese, but I can't speak either. My dad will speak to me in Chinese, my mom will speak to me in Vietnamese, and I'll respond in English. Basically, we sound really bonkers when we're having a conversation. HA!
7. My right pinky finger is almost 1 cm shorter than my left pinky finger.
8. I'm really cheesy. Cannot resist punny sentiment stamps. I use words like "hankerin'", and I like to say, "TA-DAAAA!" when I finish making a card.

I'd like to pass this award on to the following people:
Leigh Ann - Leigh Ann's work is super-fun, and she's really nice, too! There are lots of fun and cute packaging projects on her blog along with her awesome cards -- you'll definitely be inspired!
Stephanie - Each of Stephanie's cards looks like it was made with tons of love -- I always smile looking at the scenes she's created using her Cricut and other embellishments!
Alice - Alice's cards are super-cute and detailed, and her Copic colouring is bee-yu-ti-ful! I still have a lot to learn when it comes to colouring with Copics, so I'm always amazed by Alice's colouring!
Belinda - Belinda is super-nice and a really talented paper crafter! She's Paper Crafts' 2010 Gallery Idol! Woo-Hoo!

Thanks for stopping by today!! :o)

Here's one of my cards that appears in this issue!

Now that's a friendly veggie.

Some of the colour combinations in this issue were a bit challenging to me, but it was really fun to try colour combos that I don't usually try!
Also, check out today's post over at the Paper Crafts Connection blog, where P. Kelly Smith has posted one of my cards -- what a great surprise that was to see!! Thanks, Kelly!! :o)
