Card Design Handbook Blog Hop!

Hello there, folks!
Today I'm excited to be part of a fun Paper Crafts blog hop in celebration of the new special issue, Card Design Handbook!

Image courtesy of Paper Crafts magazine

The idea behind today's blog hop is to show how a project can go from 'Good to Great' by following the rules of design that are so well explained in this issue!  Since Fun & Cute is my favourite crafting style, I wanted to work with the 'rules' of this style.

Some of Paper Crafts' tips for crafting Fun & Cute are to incorporate the following:
:: happy colour scheme
:: sweet sentiment
:: uncomplicated design
:: whimsy [i.e. cartoons and doodles]
:: simple shapes [i.e. hearts and stars]
:: friendly patterns [i.e. polka dots and gingham]

Here is my Before card...

Here we've got the uncomplicated design and cartoon.  The addition of a friendly pattern would be nice, but the main thing that looks 'off' about this card is the sentiment -- the font is a little too fancy for a Fun & Cute card.

And now for the card makeover!

:D
Ba ha ha!  That sentiment is WAY better, right?  Punny sentiments and Fun & Cute are like the best friends of card making. ;o)  I also swapped out the blue covering the card base on the Before card for a slightly brighter blue that's embossed with dots, and I stamped polka dots on the 'sky' to add more of that friendly pattern.  I also decided to round the corners of the card to soften it a little.

Isn't that moose extra fun?  He's a stamp from Starving Artistamps' Arctic stamp set from the DoodleFactory line, and the polka dot background stamp is also from Starving Artistamps.  The sentiment from them is really "That's Amooseing", but I did some selective inking with it and a stamp from Hero Arts to get this sentiment.  That super-cute die-cut frame is from a Framelits set from Sizzix!

I hope my card brought you a smile or a laugh today! :o)
